aww, thank you! that is very cool to read. I think Laurence & Temeraire are in an especially complicated place in book 4, both having created the situation (by bringing back the cure, which enables the admiralty to formulate the plan) and also having a disproportionate amt of power to affect the outcome, which imo increases responsibility.

About the book 4, IMHO it's interesting that Laurence and Temeraire considered spread of disease absolutely inadmissible even in a wartime.
It reminded me of the American nuclear bomb -- a popular opinion is that a number of American scientists covertly helped the Soviet Union to obtain the necessary technologies in 40s. They did not prefer the Union and weren't spies otherwise, but they acted against the dangers of the situation of a single nuclear country in the world.
