run-up to Worldcon

Having waited to very nearly the last hour, I finally sat myself down yesterday and devoured the entire Hugo short-fiction slate, all of which is online, before voting, and oh! The novelette category! I mean, everything nominated was good, but this category, I don't know what, but it was just fully wonderful, and had the winner of the year for me, ( Read more... )

Ooooh, thank you for linking to the Hugo short fiction online! And reminding me of Pol Pot's Beautiful Daughter. Ryman gave a marvelous reading last year at Wiscon, but I utterly failed to track down and read this or any other of his work. Such is my state of perpetual distraction.
