That's really very lovely. Part of me wants to know more, and part of me is sort of thrilled at not knowing the context (besides war which I suppose is context enough).

You delineate character so beautifully, so swiftly. There's so much about the woman I feel I already know, just from this: She had been living behind the lines in this captured house all spring and all summer while they campaigned, nothing to do and no company, but still she had not gathered the fruit and the garden was overrun. In the camp the other men called her a witch, with relish and with envy. And so much more I'd love to know. Even her dog has its secrets. You turn femininity and magic into this beautiful tangle of forbidden fruit, and it's gorgeous as ever, and vivid and haunting. Also, the opening line is fabulous, a key into a secret garden and a mysterious Eve.

I've seen some of Elisem's works and I think she would make a very good job if she'd start designing groom cufflinks or scarf pins.
