I keep having an urge to post about food on my Real Blog, but that doesn't seem consequential enough to warrant breaking silence. However, in case the world needs to know it, I'm going to try a mustard-coated baked cod and potatoes recipe from last month's Bon Appetit, fix a mess of kale (it turns out I like kale), and do something with ( Read more... )

I'm going to ask you the one lomedet asked me -- five favorite prayers/liturgical moments.

Mmmmmmm. That's interesting. Right, in no particular order, an extremely self-centered list (i.e., these are mostly things I like doing, not listening to ( ... )

re (3) -- that's one of mine, too. I learned last week -- I must have known this once, but I'd long forgotten it -- that my father and I both choose the higher harmony on "nashuva," which pleased me far more than makes rational sense.

And re (6) -- :-) :-) :-)

I look so forward to meeting your husband. He just sounds...right for you, in so many ways. Which is as it should be, really, but apparently not everybody's as lucky as we are. *g*

The mustard-baked cod and potatoes sound so good.

List: top five (favourite, not necessarily accomplished) fictional detectives.

If it turns out well, I can post the recipe -- or look for it on BA's website, actually.

(1) Harriet Vane
(2) Lord Peter Wimsey
(3) Tommy and Tuppence Beresford (unlike Harriet and Lord Peter, I want to read about them together, not separately -- and I could fill up a list with Christie detectives but won't; in fact, I will deliberately switch out of Golden Age mode:)
(4) Jacqueline Kirby (why did "Elizabeth Peters" have to stop writing those?)
(5) Wesley Wyndham-Pryce in "Happy Anniversary" (someday the world will give me a long plotty fic about that case)

Top five favorite Buffy moments/episodes.

And the food sounds very nice. Let us know how it turns out -- mustard seems kind of much for cod, but OTOH, it generally goes well with fish ...

Episodes, I think -- some of my favorite episodes have a bunch of favorite moments. In no particular order:

(1) "Anne"
(2) "Gingerbread"
(3) "Selfless"
(4) "Restless"
(5) "Once More With Feeling" (sorry, can't resist -- but really flat tie between this and "Tabula Rasa")

Excellent! I haven't seen "Selfless" yet -- somehow, I've never seen the end of season six nor the beginning of season seven. Ooh! I think you might not be on my filter for this, but I found out today that I work with a Buffy/Angel actor's RL mum and that he and his Buffyverse wife have been on campus a couple of times ;-)

Going on with the culinary theme: 5 favourite desserts?

But there are so many! This list is purely Of The Moment:

(1) sour-cream coffee cake with both strata and topping of brown-sugar/nut streusel (I am thinking of a specific family recipe here, but I'm sure there are others answering to that description)
(2) homemade peach ice cream
(3) extremely fudgy brownies made with really really good baking chocolate
(4) lemon meringue pie
(5) fresh cherries -- esp. the yellow-and-red ones from the Pacific Northwest, which go by different names in different places

I like kale as well. Any particular way(s) of fixing it you favor?

Five articles of clothing or accessories you covet.

I just recently discovered kale, and tend toward sauteing it with olive oil and minced garlic till it wilts, then clapping on a lid and steaming a bit.

So, interpreting "accessory" with abandon:

(1) Anachronistically comfortable yet boobalicious corset
(2) Tallit gadol with orange stripes
(3) The perfect pair of black heeled boots
(4) Diamond stud earrings (embarrassing but true; this is what happens when you get a family engagement ring and you don't like to mix gems)
(5) My favorite corduroy skirt from Eddie Bauer in a nice chocolate brown
