Summary: Ever wonder what the crack was with naomily in episode 5? here's one take on it anyway exploring Naomi's thoughts.
Authors Note: i thought it wasn't too far fetched an idea with Emily knowing where she lived and stuff by ep 6.
churned this out as the result of yet another sleepless night, but then grew quite tired haha and i'm sure it shows.
Comment if you want :)
They're at the pub quiz; Naomi had expected it to be a group thing and when she finds herself alone at a table with just Emily she makes no attempt at masking her disappointment, with the company, the questions, the chairs. Until JJ cracks a joke at her expense (it's funny, really, something she'd probably of come out with herself though she can't see that now of course) and Emily tells her to 'lighten up'.
She's about to snap something back when she notices that really it was more like asking, asking her tentatively to maybe, if it wasn't too much trouble, not be such a twat and so instead she finds herself smiling at her and making a note in her head to make the most of the night.
They're drunk, but then really when aren't they. Naomi wonders if Emily's noticed it too and for a second she contemplates asking until she decides she doesn't care either way.
Nevertheless Emily's walking her home and she's glad of the fact. She invites her to stay but right now it's okay, because her mind is saying things about how it's late and 'anything could happen' and she can convince herself that's why.
She enjoys playing the host, it's safe to say it's a role Naomi's never tried out before and she's making Emily laugh as she guides her through the kitchen, points and says 'that's the kettle.'
Mostly Emily just nods and smiles, taking it all in seemingly unphased but there's a look on her face that gives her away, like she's got the sneaking suspicion that at any moment somebody's going to wake her up.
Naomi makes a bed for her on the floor but somehow she knows it won't be slept in, and she's right.
She lasts half an hour and Naomi can't help but smirk, surprised she managed that. Emily's sitting on her bed not saying a word but she doesn't need to because it's always in the eyes. She wonders how they can look so hopeful and at the same time not ask anything of her at all. She's surprised when it's her hand that reaches out, she runs it up and down the length of Emily's arm and lets her fingers say what she knows she can't.
They don't speak and they certainly don't kiss, that would be far too much. To have Emily here, in her space, in her bed is more than enough she thinks and thankfully it's enough for Emily too because she falls asleep almost right away.
Most of the time Naomi can lie to herself, but it's hard to deny something when it's sleeping soundly next to you and part of her thinks that she made her bed in Pandora's house and on that bouncy castle and now she's lying in it, literally.
She savors the moment of acceptance because she knows that's all it will be. Tomorrow will be business as usual and Emily won't ever know about her lying there, listening to her breathing and feeling oddly comforted by the sound.
When she wakes Emily's left to get ready for college and she's glad that she's done her job for her. She finds herself feeling angry, she thinks Emily's love is selfish. For putting her in this situation, for choosing her. Then she realizes that it's not a choice at all, she's sure if it was Emily would of chose someone far less cynical than her, far less indecisive, and if it was a choice, it wouldn't be consuming Naomi's thoughts. Yet despite knowing this when Emily waits for her outside college she avoids her, when she greets her happily in class Naomi just gives her a look, a look she knows means that just because they're stuck with this doesn't mean she's not going to fight it.
