Fic : Untitled Faith thing (1/?) (FR13)

Couple of things to note. Firstly, this story is something I pick away at during my lunch break and various free moments at the office. This means small chunks and variable output. Secondly, it's a Faith fic. In my fics, there tend to be pairings. If I 'ship any girl in the B-verse, it's with Xander. This is because Giles is the father figure and ( Read more... )

fic: wip, pairing: faith/xander, btvs: faith, rating: fr13

Nice beginning. :-) Definitely Faith's voice and an interesting teaser. I love Faith/Xander so I'm looking forward to more.

Only one crit that jumped out at me; why is Faith going along with this whole interview process in the first place? You write "she has to get the doc's OK and all the right forms signed, sealed and approved before she can get back out in the field again" but to me that was the only part that didn't feel like Faith. Surely she would simply flip them the bird, steal the nearest motorbike and head out on her own. It sort of felt like some motivation was missing for her to put up with the tests and the interviews.

Needs more motivation, check. I'll think of something. That said, Faith always struck me as one of the only characters who ever really grew up in BTVS. In a real world sense, I mean. Even Xander, for all that he was one of the few to have a proper life outside of the group, still stayed stuck in his butt monkey role. But Faith did change over time. So I kind of see her as being a lot more responsible almost ten years down the line, having been a part of rebuilding the council and running it and so forth. Less of an angry biker chick than an annoyed army drill sergeant :)

Oh, absolutely. Couldn't agree more and that's one of the main attractions for me of Faith fic, particularly since IMHO Xander is the ideal partner for her while she's growing up. Not least because he has a fair bit to do himself.

However, the point I was making here was that in the context of this fic we've jumped from the end of S7 to a point presumably some years later where the new council is beginning to come together (and perhaps from the bureaucracy you're portraying her has having to toe the line to, is starting to become inflexible again?). I'm sure that Faith would have continued to grow in that time but at the end of S7 she would never have put up with 'that sort of shit'. Clearly there's been some character growth from then until the scene you've opened with but it wasn't evident or referred to even in passing via some throwaway line.

Got it. I'll try and work some more background into this as we go along.

Very interesting to see the Council go corporate, but still not letting the other establishment drones in on the real deal about Slayers.

Lovely Faith voice -"Pilates are a bitch." Snerk...

Good set up and a twist. Things are looking promising. Rubs hands in anticipation.

It was great to see this whilst flicking through my friend page. Great Faith voice as usual and interested to see where this is going. So going by age (28) is this taking place in 2009? So roughly about 6 years post Chosen.

Well actually, I never had much idea how old Faith was officially when she first turned up in Sunnydale. If it's been stated somewhere, I missed it. So I made an executive decision that she was a very experienced sixteen, for story-related reasons that will hopefully become clearer as we go on, although I'm pretty sure she was actually older canonically speaking. Using that as a guideline, she was nineteen-ish when Sunnydale imploded in 2003. Add nine years to make her 28 and that means this fic takes place in in early 2012. Buffy, Willow and Xander are all pushing 30 or thereabouts, Dawn is 26 and Giles is just his usual eternal grey fox self. I'll put an AU note up with the next part to clarify everything :)

I don't think her age has been set in canon. I was just working from "Go Ask Malice" and the RPG which have her birthday as December 14th and being 18 in 1998, but I do not think that is official canon. I was mainly trying to figure it out given the reveal at the end.:-)

Really enjoyed this. I love Faith/Xander. I miss them and what they could have been. I hope this fic stays with them . I thought the Faith voice was really good. I enjoyed the fact that while she maintains her edge she understands when she needs to play ball....at least for a few minutes.

I am very curious where at what Xand will sound like.

I'm glad you liked it so far. I'm definitely going to try and build a proper story for the characters. Xander will feature pretty heavily, but not straight away. I want Faith to have a bit of a story arc under her belt first before I bring him into play. She's got a few things to find out, a couple of situations to deal with and some things in her life to rearrange first. It should be fun, though :)

The next part is up now.
