NaNoWriMo was the focus of an article in today's Tulsa World:

Might I suggest having all new entries moderated? I know it might be more work for moderators, but it'll help weed out spam/pointless threads.

it's more work than we have time for. and it's only two months a year we really harp on. When I'm writing my NaNo, it's easier to write a "I'm deleteing your post please repost..." reply and delete maybe 3-4 times than to read 10-15 entries.

Most people are good. Their first delete makes them step back and read the rules, and there's no problems after that. it's the excited last minute joiners that always jump before reading I find.

Yeah, I hear ya, last minute newbies/joiners are too excited to read the rules..

Well, keep up the great work modding (I'm a moderator at a forum, so I know how it feels to have a lot of posts/threads that aren't abiding by rules)

I am a last minute joiner and I have read all the rules. Did I understand it right that I will get deleted, if I don't post an excerpt and the daily word count in the threads? An reply would be very appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I was going to suggest moderated posting, but since that has been done and shot down for reasons I understand, I still wanted to make a couple of other points and suggestions.

People aren't taking the time to check links, or go to a previous page to see if their posts haven't been taken care of. And with so many errant posts the ones people seem to be looking for (word count/excerpt) get pushed to a second page. In November Time is Wordage so it's understandable that this time isn't taken.

It may be beneficial to post date a rules post so that it always stays at the top of the recent entries page - and/or to increase the number of posts on that page.

I hope I haven't overstepped my boundaries, or put you off, but I'm sure that I'm not the only one who would like to see this place less abused.
