Since sabournine hasn't done one today (being that there's the album rather than the novel)... What would a trip to the doctor be like for your character? Whether it's a battlefield situation (where they would have to possibly be carried in), to a reluctant patient (kicking and screaming), to a hesitant appointment, to a regular check-up, how would ( Read more... )

This is a great character development topic, but I'm writing a non-narrative, so a lot of the exercises that have been posted aren't much use to me (if any use at all). So, I'm going to start posting some exercise suggestions for you all that I think will help me, as well.

Any exercsie helps, IMO; and we could always leave them here even after NaNoWroMo for whenever we mgiht need a touch of writing inspiration. There's nothing wrong with sharing writer's prompts, right? ;-)

I like this idea! We could do exercises a little less regularly without the time pressure of NaNo and all, and just have fun with it. I think half the point of doing even the preparation/outline exercises is to just get yourself writing and thinking about character and story and generally sparking the inspiration .)

BTW, you don't have to apologize for posting .) I'm actually REALLY glad people are posting exercises because I feel very bad for slacking off and leaving everyone hanging. So thank you for taking the initiative .)

Well, I saw someone else beat me to it, after I posted it. ;-) Another great thing is (not advertising here--I use it) WriteSparks. I'm using Writesparks lite--it's a free download--and Shery Ma Belle Arieta also has a newsletter where she proffers writing prompts, too.

I have a writing prompts list on Yahoo where I wish some folks would post prompts too. I'd only started it because *gasp* I couldn't find a place that posted prompts on a semi-regular basis. I've found them since then, but the group's still there. I might "borrow" a few of my earlier prompts from there and post them here, lol. It's always nice ot share a few, and you never know what might help someone past that curve...
