In summary, you have until now and July 31st to write a short story in the style of Kenneth Grahame's Wind In The Willows. No entry fee but top prizes include money and possible publication.

The next BTC Flash Fiction Contest is underway! The prompt is: Rites of Passage.

This could be a coming of age story, a sci-fi about alien warrior initiations, a divorcee’s first date in twenty-five years, an assassin’s first kill...Well, you get the idea. Possibilities are endless.

This is the theme for the Symphony Space 2008 Selected Shorts Writing Contest and it's the question/theme for this week's exercise.

When I saw these a few weeks ago I thought it was intriguing from both a literal and not so literal answer to the question. I haven't been able to get the question out of my head. Hopefully it will spark your muse

Tonight I wandered across two Byzarium contests that may be fun.

The first is for a 500 word piece of flash fiction based on the picture posted on their site. Prize is $5 and publication. Only one entry per person per month. The deadline is 2/1/08.
