I did needlepoint on the plastic canvas as a kid, and then cross stitch - mostly my interest in it, coincided with the times when my mom started working on projects :D
Then I never did any for ages - until one summer before my last year of college, when I bought a kit at the start of summer, and spent summer evenings when I was watching tv, doing my cross stitch - I think it was the first "biggish" kit that I ever finished!
Then I did nothing for ages and ages until a couple of years ago when I picked things up again! It is fun to go back to needlework!
I suspect that you might quite like blackwork - I find it really quite relaxing, and once I can "see" the logic of the pattern, I really like not having to constantly check against the pattern every couple of stitches - it flows very smoothly.
