Cross-stitch rediscovered

Apr 02, 2021 13:13

I got bored with the 365 question meme after the end of February and have no plans to restart it. I can, however, thank it for one thing: reigniting my interest in cross-stitch. I was taught to cross-stitch by an eccentric great-aunt when I was around eight years old, on the plastic frames with thick yarn. As I grew older, I graduated to the Aida ( Read more... )

LOL, I think I can guess your favorite! Is cross-stitch the same as needlepoint?

:D they've both variants of embroidery, I believe. I think needlepoint can use a variety of stitch types while cross stitch means the X's, although I've seen the terms used interchangeably on advertising for kits.

eee - I love the octopus - super cute!

I did needlepoint on the plastic canvas as a kid, and then cross stitch - mostly my interest in it, coincided with the times when my mom started working on projects :D

Then I never did any for ages - until one summer before my last year of college, when I bought a kit at the start of summer, and spent summer evenings when I was watching tv, doing my cross stitch - I think it was the first "biggish" kit that I ever finished!

Then I did nothing for ages and ages until a couple of years ago when I picked things up again! It is fun to go back to needlework!

I suspect that you might quite like blackwork - I find it really quite relaxing, and once I can "see" the logic of the pattern, I really like not having to constantly check against the pattern every couple of stitches - it flows very smoothly.

I'm very much enjoying the needlework!

I like the sound of blackwork, thank you. Do you have a favourite pattern provider?

The one that I started with, was a free stitchalong through a Facebook Group - Peppermint Purple - she is doing another stitchalong this year - it's one pattern per week.

She also has a shop with a ton of lovely patterns that are in my shopping cart :)

...and now in mine, too. But I'm going to make myself finish the kits I've got before I press the Buy button! :D
