Day 286/365: Five Questions meme

Oct 13, 2018 13:21

My five questions came from manue7a.

  1. What does Humuhumu mean? It’s short for “humuhumunukunukuapua’a, which is the name of the Hawai’ian state fish. It’s a trigger fish. It is very beautiful but also quite aggressive. When I was a child, my dad and I managed to catch one when we were idly fishing at the beach, and we brought it home to put in our aquarium ( Read more... )

Given the Tories' delightful 'hostile environment', I won't be surprised if they decide to eject you at some point. Sadly, it appears that Nazism wasn't exterminated in 1945. However, there's Ireland, which by all accounts, is a lovely, progressive and tolerant country (and they have the sweetest of accents), and hopefully before too long there will also be Scotland, which voted overwhelmingly against 'Breggzit' and is definitely a progressive and welcoming country.

*sigh* I really hope it does not get that bad. I do, however, now live in the Midlands, which is about the worst example of the attitudes that voted for this nonsense. So escape plans, however nebulous, need to be considered. Thanks for the suggestions!

I've wondered where you got your daughter's online name from, thanks. It's very interesting.

If language was a barrier I would have to choose Spain as well, and hope that my few years of Spanish lessons would be sufficient enough to get by.

I'll take some questions!

1. You are very well traveled. What are your top three future destinations?
2. Tell me about your cats. When did you get them and how did you choose their names?
3. What’s the best food you’ve tasted that you would never make yourself?
4. How long have you played in an orchestra?
5. Retirement plans: do you have any?

I recognized "Humuhumu" -- it's always such a treat to spot the fishes while snorkeling, because they're so distinctive! -- but have always been curious how that ended up being your daughter's nickname, and whether it's her nickname IRL or just on LJ/DW -- sounds like the latter?

(I've been using these less now that they're basically adults, but L and O have been tushkanchik (jerboa) and suslik, respectively, since they were born -- mostly IRL, but I do mention it on LJ, too.) And they've got a small collection of their eponymous critters, too, although both are fairly uncommon to show up as stuffies or figurines, definitely much less common than hamsters.

Oh, also, Yes please for questions!

1) What’s the worst holiday you’ve taken?
2) What’s the best gift you’ve been given?
3) What book or series of books do you think cemented your love of reading for pleasure?
4) You give the impression of being extremely organised with your time. Do you procrastinate? If so, how (blogging is exempt, haha)?
5) Have you ever dyed your hair a bright/funky colour? If so, what was it?

I sincerely hope you won't encounter hostility. I do not want Brexit.

I hope not too. Brexit is going to be - already has been, but it can only get worse - very damaging to the UK. :/

Are you ever tempted to shorten it further to "Humu"?
Just curious (and absolutely no need to answer) How did your parents end up in Hawai'i?

Yes please.

Personally I want to go and live on Malin Head in Eire. Tis lovely.

Heh, no, "Humu" sounds funny to me.

My parents met in Hawai'i and decided to settle there.

Malin Head is a wonderful spot.

Questions!
1) What’s the best thing about working with the Brownies?
2) Please post a cat photo?
3) Have you ever had a pet that wasn't a cat; if Yes, what was it?
4) What are your top three holiday destinations?
5) Will you seriously consider leaving the UK if Brexit goes badly?
