Have you been there before? Is it really touristy? I would like to visit the Canaries some day, but I picture it being really touristy/time-shareish... But I'm not basing that on any fact or having been there, just a gut feel and from what I've heard...

I've never been to Tenerife before, no. I'm in a resort town (not going to be more specific until I get back; woman traveling alone, etc) so it is touristy, but not in an unpleasant way if that makes sense? I mean, the resort is full of aging European pensioners spending their kids' inheritances and refusing to die (to paraphrase Paxman), but it's a relaxed atmosphere and the town itself is beautiful.
