I think it's a good idea to watch a few episodes of "Hoarders" before going grocery shopping... especially that very first episode, with the old lady who's an EXCELLENT cook but has pantries and refrigerators full of expired food and piles of rotting vegetables in her living room
( ... )
i've managed to get away from buying food neither of us will ever eat. I'm also trying to stay away from buying perishables that go bad before I eat them... Which, cooking for the fridge or freezer really helps with that. Not to mention QFC has a donations bin for the lynnwood food bank, so if I find myself with stuff that'll never get eaten at my house, I just drop it off.
With the freezer & the cow every fall, and trying to eat seasonally, there's a bit of "stocking up" that happens in the fall... fortunately its all stuff that's on sale for dirt cheap & stuff that'll get eaten by spring for sure. But i do have to make sure it does get eaten...
