Oh my word. Just when I thought I could see where this was going, it twists around and lands at a completely different angle.
It hadn't occurred to me that the Master's return was Jack's fault - if the TARDIS hadn't tried to fling him off they would never have ended up at the end of the universe. The TARDIS was behaving a bit like Alice and Jenny's Hilda: "I don't want That Man tagging along again". This could explain why he was semi-passive about all the torture over the bits that we saw in the year-that-never-was...

See, I always figured Jack blamed himself for the Master because of the trip to the end of the universe. I also think he got over it, but still. :)
Oh, my darlin' NB. You are some kind of absolute wonder and thank you for the chapters which I gobbled up. I promise to carefully re-read later when the horror and dread don't make me so still, hoping to hide from the bad. I love how Jack drew Ianto and Gwen to himself and what they are...makes sense, how many times could they walk away from situations that killed so many others. Wowie Zowie NB, done good here and surprized me. I like that and now I'm off to read more again. Will until the horror is an echo and not a screaming reality about to consume everything. You go to the head of the class, sweet tater. There will be chocolates for you and my beloved Don Julio, the anejo, "oily and thermal like the sun in solution". (tom robbins--Still Life with Woodpecker).
I can't quite figure why Jack doesn't ask Ianto to help there. I mean I get he's just lost him and got him back, but surely he knows it's more likely to work. Or maybe it's Ianto who works that out? It's a great twist in the story.
Jack really doesn't know, though. He's not sure if this is going to work, or if John's right and he's about to kill whoever he puts through this. (Why look. A plot that is EERILY FAMILIAR ... ) :D
I truly have no words for this shocking development, that Jack kept his most beloved team member's abilities secret all these years. I simply cannot wait for the next update to see the aftermath. :) Exceptional!
