"5 Guys Burgers OR Fries" is more like it...

First off, I'm happy to say that I've finally found the equivalent of In'N'Out Burger in Colorado.  It's a place called "5 Guys Burgers & Fries".  They started out east somewhere, and now they've finally made it close to Intel.  First time I tried them, I could tell they were trying to be In'N'Out, and I admired them for the attempt, though I  ( Read more... )

well there's one way to drive down the cost of a 5 guys meal - go with someone else and just get one order of fries. Who can eat that many fries?

You could take this a step further if you were really frugal and find someone that you can agree with on burger toppings, then just get one burger + fries and share the whole thing. It works for pizza, why not for a giant burger?

Have you tried Smash Burger? I'm curious to see how you would compare the two. They are pretty direct competitors in the "Overpay for your burger and fries" market.

Yeah, and I often do that for sit down restaurants. But who knew you'd have to do something like that for fast food of all things?

Plus, there's not many people I'd feel comfortable whipping out a knife and splitting a burger in half with. Pizza's different -- it's already pre-cut, I guess. Fries are fine; they're all individualized anyway. I don't know, sharing a burger just seems different -- a little "Lady and the Tramp"ish for me. :-D

My wife was out working on Friday, so I couldn't have her come along, so no burger splitting for me. :-(

Teyana wants me to try Smash Burger, too, which I'll do sometime. That's all I need, though: 2 overpriced local burger places I'm in love with! As if one wasn't enough.

You know, I was referred to Five Guys just last night. So that and your entry here have convinced me--I'll probably go try it sometime this week.

Hopefully I don't like it too much, because I can't afford it! :)

But just talking about the place is difficult. I encountered that last night. "Hey, Josh, have you had Five Guys yet?"
