Awesome! The first few drafts didn't manage the tension at all and it was driving me crazy.

I get the feeling Riika's a slightly better shot than Sapierre, but she's also got more experience than he does at working out what various monsters are inclined to do than he is. Which was disconcerting, because I hadn't met them at all until the second draft of this thing.

nothing like tripping across an entirely new habitat, and no way of knowing what comes along with the new neighborhood. shitty as-hell circumstances, but a baited ambush is a much better idea--they didn't really want to try to fight something like that in the middle of a tangled swath of vines anyway. i mean, assuming you can't nuke it from space, as it's the only way to be sure.
