Ulysse--and by extension I--has no idea wtf was up with the ferrets and is still kind of curious about it.

She's not, no; I don't think she was one of the ones that followed Donel into the woods, since I haven't seen her before.

The tapping at temple seems to carry an implication of 'mage' or magic--something in one's head that might not be obvious.

I suspect someone deliberately loosened that board as a way of quietly announcing presence.

It's ... parental? 's rude to treat one's long-since-adult mageblooded brother like a young mage. Different rules--he could get away with it on Hernén, though Hernén's getting too old/independent.

So much of Ruadhan's and Donel's surroundings are set up for defensive and aggressive gestures. It's kind of interesting to watch.

He does indeed. He could have tackled it slightly differently, and told Donel the truth, but it struck him as more effective to go this way.
