St. Valentine's Day is, for the first time in Thorn's life, a holiday of deep and meaningful significance. He has spent the first half of February in a constant state of mild panic, building to this day. Courtney has had less time for him, concerned over her uncle following a rather harrowing encounter with a daemon. The state of Thorn's ( Read more... )

Courtney is staggered by the generosity of the Valentines. She, in return, had made some heart-shaped cookies and a handmade card and sent them to Thorn by PINpoint. In light of what he's given her, she wonders if she should have gone to more trouble.

She carries the roses to her room and wards cat and goblins away from them greedily. She'll share the chocolates, but there's something special about getting a huge bouquet of flowers.

Later on, after she's sure Aloysius is settled for the day, she slips off to see Thorn and thank him properly.

In his eagerness to get things right, Thorn may have gone somewhat overboard. Certainly her uncle gives the whole matter a raised eyebrow and a dose of skepticism.

For his part, Thorn is utterly thrilled with his gifts from Courtney, offering Master Tom and Leela a few cookies before he takes them to his room. The card recieves a place of honour on his desk, where he spends much of his free time indoors.

When she arrives, he comes to meet her with an awkward hug, but there seems little point in concealing the relationship from the household. Leela is too perceptive not to have worked it out, and Tom likely thinks nothing of it. "Thankee! I never... um... well did I do orright??"

"You didn't have to go to that much trouble!" She squeezes him close. "I've never seen so many flowers at once!"

This is something of an exaggeration, but it's easy to tell she's delighted by the whole thing, if somewhat embarrassed.

"Oh, um... but it wosn't a bad thing?" He is concerned now that he may have erred in the other direction, although she seems happy enough. His inexperience in both romance and more modern customs has left him reliant on the hints in popular media. In books and movies, the man gets the woman flowers and chocolate, and he was eager to do things properly.
