Theoretically Asked Questions

What is the plot of this game?
In 2004 entrepreneur and philanthropist Charles Widmore commissioned a crew to extract Benjamin Linus from an island in the Pacific. The crew's orders after the extraction had been made were to kill everyone else on the island. The mission was successful.

During the following year, the DHARMA Initiative, a defunct scientific research group that formerly operated on that same island, announced its return and a renewed effort to recruit volunteers. Complications arose, however. Everyone working for the DHARMA Initiative began to develop a mysterious illness that uniformly resulted in death. Everyone who worked for DHARMA, that is, except for those who were not from this world.

The DHARMA of the past and the DHARMA of the present had stations around the island dedicated to different experiments. The Orchid, said to be a botanical research facility, was in reality a facility dedicated to space-time experiments. A portal in this station was intended to transport subjects from the present time and space; a malfunction, however, caused people to come to the present time and space, people who were not from the present time and space. They were the only ones who did not get sick, and they were the only ones who did not die.

Now, those who come in from the Orchid are the only ones who staff the DHARMA Initiative as it exists on the island.

How does my character enter the game?
Through a time space portal in a DHARMA station called the Orchid. Unless your character is originally from the verse the game is in (i.e. a character from Lost who did not die in Widmore's purge), your character cannot enter any other way.

What happens when my character enters the game?
They will find themselves in a circular white chamber. On one side of the chamber is a door with two see-through windows. This door can only be opened from the outside. The chamber is situated within the Orchid station, which is manned at all times. Whoever is manning the Orchid will open the doors for your character and greet them. If the player of the character manning the Orchid at the time is not up for a thread, this process can be handwaved.

After leaving the Orchid your character will be taken to a barrack where they will view an orientation video and take a placement test, to determine what job the character will have on the island. The character will then be given a room where they will be temporarily stationed until they are assigned a house in the Barracks proper (a community of suburban style homes which sits within the protection of the sonar fences). They will also be asigned a job.

How can my character get a job at the DHARMA Initiative?
Through IC and OOC means. OOCly, contact the mods and whoever else might be in charge of hiring. ICly, your character will have to go through the automatic application process when they arrive on the island.

Can my character contact the outside world?
The DI permits information to flow in but not out, which does not prevent the possibility that people on the island will find unofficial means to contact the outside world.

Can my character get off the island?
Yes, but for those who can't teleport or for those who must know exactly where they are going to teleport to, leaving the island won't be easy. There are no boats docked on the island, nor are there any boats on the island that can be sailed (unless you're very patient and want to work on fixing up the Black Rock), and supplies are dropped via airplane. Those who do manage to find a way to leave the island must follow an exact bearing. It's not a bearing that is common knowledge.

Can my character return to their universe?
No. The portal only brings people in, not out. This, however, is the same sort of predicament as outside communication: it can be amended, if characters work to amend it.

If this is set in the Lost universe, what happened to the characters on the Island?
The crash survivors and those with them died, along with those who were with Benjamin Linus when he was captured by Martin Keamy. Your character, unless they do some real good snooping, will only know about Oceanic 815, which, as believed by the outside world, was found at the bottom of the Sunda Trench with all 324 bodies inside.

Can I play any original characters?
You cannot apply for an original character from a preexisting original universe. You are allowed to play a NPC in the game verse, but only as required. They will not be added to the cast list.

Can my character have powers?
Yes, but if they use those powers to leave the island and in any way manifest their powers to the outside world, there will be consequences brought up on them by DHARMA's owners. On the island however their powers can be at full strength.

Can I play a god?
Sorry, no divine characters from any pantheon or religion allowed. If we say no to figures from a certain set of religions (Christianity/Islam), we gotta say no to all.

Can I play AU characters?
Not if they are not from the gameverse AU of Lost.

Can I use a preexisting game continuity/journal I use for another game?
You can use a journal you use for another game but you cannot use another game's continuity.

Do I have to be familiar with Lost canon?
No. Whatever you need to know about the canon the moderators will tell you.
