Yeah we had that problem with Time Warner. Then we dropped them and got AT&T U-Verse that lets you record four things at once a.k.a. record three things and watch something different at the same time. Kind of fixed the problem.

But seriously, look up the show on Food Network's website. Odds are they'll re-air it at some ungodly hour of the morning when nobody will be up to cancel your recording.

Well, we have AT&T, but what the commercials don't tell you is that you only have four receivers if you're not recording in HD - which we are. In HD, you get two. Why this is, I'm not sure, but that's what my dad the engineer says, so I'm inclined to believe him.

Yeah, I found another showing on Tuesday night - I'm just annoyed that I have to find another one in the first place. I have never once canceled someone else's recording without asking them first to make sure it was okay; is it really so much to expect the same courtesy in return?

...then record something in analog. We do that all the time if we're recording/watching more than two HD programs. Just about all the major channels on U-verse have an analog version, just without the 1000 added to the channel number.

For whatever reason, when we do that on ours, we just end up with... nothing. Like, you can watch the non-HD channels, but you can't record them. I have no idea why.

No, you aren't insane, as I always feel the same way when my parents do something like that.

At any rate, I'm sure the Food Network will play the episode again sometime--they always have Iron Chef reruns.

Oh, they will, but it's more the principle of the thing that's really making me angry - why do they keep thinking it's perfectly okay to cancel my shows?! I have never once done that, because it's inconsiderate and selfish, so I don't see why I shouldn't expect the same. ASK FIRST, it wouldn't be THAT hard!

Yes, I completely agree. Have you talked to them about it?

Pretty much every single time they do it, which is, frustratingly enough, a couple of times a month. They don't seem to think they're doing anything wrong.
