Playback quality on CDs is not better than on vinyl. Music suffers from compression, and it isn't digital. CDs are not as bad as MP3s, but nothing this side of a live performance can cut it quite so well as vinyl. Most likely what you're actually experiencing is low quality stereo equipment for LPs. Good turntables exist, but they are expensive, and most people aren't interested in paying a lot of money for something they can't find easily, like new music on vinyl.
So there.:-P (the_original1 and I probably have at least 400 albums on vinyl, casette, and CD. I'm a little bit opinionated about music. But I'm right, so I think that's okay.)
My husband is an audiophile and has had some nice audio equipment in the past, but I don't really know anything about it. It may be true that LPs have the potential for better sound, but it isn't high enough on our list for the effort and expense it would require.
Thanks for the info! I'll keep it in mind the next time I mouth off on the subject. :o)
I'm just trying to help clauderainsrm out with harrassing you.:-)
When we win the lottery, we're going to spend some money on a really nice turntable. Then we'll invite people over so we can prove to them that it sounds better. Until then, you'll just have to take my word for it.:-)
Heh. Gary's summoning is troops now, eh? Go ahead, I can take it (so long as I know you're joking ;)
I just asked Joe what he had (this was back in the '70s) it was a Thorens turntable with a Stanton 681EE cartridge, fed into AR amplifier and out to Koss ESP9 Electrostatic headphones. He says he didn't have Crown tube amp money. Heh.
