One kitten isn't enough :) But, really, they can be disruptive if you're not ready for them, and they do require a lot of cleaning if you don't want to have a crazy cat lady house. They're especially disruptive when they're tiny and full of energy! But they are very lovey, too, and can be very comforting. And they get less crazy as they grow up. It depends on the kitten, of course. I look for the co-dependent ones :)
But, more to your case, when we got Tarod, it was because Eric was on the road 2-3 weeks a month, and so the cat would be my responsibility, and someone to keep me company. You've got that card, too, but I don't know if it's as good in your hand as it was in mine... I did have to promise that Eric can have a dog... as soon as he has a job that keeps him home, and we have a house that can support it.
