Yeah, I figured out a way to make it mostly garter stitch with just a stockinette panel in the center so that I can put her name in. That was the part that was bothering me. I had to chart her name out in a diagonal. I told my other friends that they would be getting a completely impractical heirloom blanket from me for their baby, though :)
