I was at a Borders bookstore just now, and in the Bargains stuff out front were several copies of a paperback. Voyages of Imagination or something like that. It was basically a "Star Trek novel Companion ( Read more... )

If you're a fan of the novels, it's pretty decent. As you've pointed out, some of the recollections are pretty basic and/or nonexistent, and it seems that (unfortunately) Ayres didn't do any research aside from interviews-- one wonders why no archival interviews were used for sources. And there's just so much fiction out there that it can't cover anything in depth.

But those are quibbles-- for the most part, it's quite good and interesting, and there's no other book quite like it. It's certainly worth four dollars!

My only problems with buying it would be that it IS rather chunky and we ARE running out of room for books, and that I really don't have the time for the inevitable succumbing to the temptation to read it all straight through (not all in one or two sittings, of course).
