SPAIN WON THE WORLD CUP!

It was such a painful game to watch. I was literally shaking and spent a large amount of my time hiding behind my hands. Poor lemniciate  had to deal with my general spazzy-ness and a group of really annoying Chinese tourists that ended up sharing our booth with us because the pub was just so crowded that people were sitting on the ( Read more... )

I was supporting Holland, as you know, but by the time half time came round, I was sorely tempted to switch sides altogether. The Dutch players were fucking RIDICULOUS. I was rather annoyed, I hate dirty, violent football, and they were the epitome of just that, which pissed me off so much; I'd always thought Holland were a clean team, and that, if anything (and no offence!), Spain were worse than them in this aspect. But Spain kept at it, despite the fact Holland should've had at most 10 players on the pitch by half time, and they were deserved winners, even if my heart did go out to the Dutch. I always pity the losing team, it sucks to be on the losing end, but there must always be a winner and a loser.

Anyway. Congrats to your team! :D So glad you're happy~

I think the Dutch players had been told by their coach to stifle the Spanish play, stopping them from doing the short passes constantly. It was a game-plan but it was a brutal one and not pretty. I agree with the commentators: not good for the sport. I'm proud of Spain for not getting (too) riled up by obvious amount of petty/dangerous fouls against them. I've seen them be a bit (sometimes a lot) childish before and not let something slide and try and retaliate for what they saw as a misdeed against them. But they didn't do that - thank goodness!

I always hate to see the disappointment and the tears from the players who lost. I feel such sympathy, they did get so very close to holding the cup themselves. But... I can't deny my happiness that Spain won. :D

Thank you! *hugs* I am VERY happy.

Holland knew they couldn't compete with Spain's keep-away game (look what happened to Germany) so they decided to try and goad them instead... it almost worked (remember when Iniesta retaliated late in the second half, but the ref didn't see it?). The game was SO ugly and frustrating to watch, there was absolutely no flow... and while the chest kick should have been a red card, I kind of think the ref made the right call - it's only the first quarter of the game, putting Holland at 10 men so early would have just sealed the game, I think. But it was pretty disgusting.

Seeing Iker (and Piqué, a little!) cry after Iniesta's goal just like, broke my heart into a million pieces of SUNSHINE. Holland had two major breakaways and numerous other opportunities, that combined with their change in playing style (THUGS) kind of prevents me from feeling bad about their loss... of course, I'm also extremely biased ;)

I don't really remember Iniesta retaliating! It must have been one of those moments I was hiding behind my hands. It happened a lot. No lie. Over all I thought Spain did a good job of not rising to the bait (or not as much as they really could have done). I totally agree about the match being so ugly and frustrating to watch. Not the beautiful game I love.

I also agree about the ref. Yeah, it would have been a red on pretty much any other occasion and you shouldn't really treat this game any different. But it is. It's the World Cup final and sending off a player in the first half would have certainly sealed the game.

I AM TOTALLY BIASED TOO! The look on Casillas' face when Iniesta scored was priceless. I was so happy to see him holding up that cup. *tears up*

Oh my god, this game. THIS GAME. So I have no concept of team loyalty because I was all in for Spain but WHO CARES because it made it easily one of the most stressful experiences of my life so far. Seriously, this game made me understand why people get into sports, which sucks because it wasn't even that great of a match, but whatever. I was almost incoherent with frustration and stress watching it, it was ridiculous. So glad they won, though, and very happy for you, who've been supporting them all along. Congrats, bb!

(Also that gif: I WAS SO. FUCKING. PISSED. AT THAT. AND AT THE FACT THAT IT WASN'T A RED CARD. HOW THE FUCK IS THAT NOT A RED CARD. AKSLHGSHRAG XABI ;______;)

THE PAIN OF WATCHING! D: IT HURT SO BAAAAAAAAD! I can totally sympathise about the stress; it was in no way good for my heart. I kept having to turn away and take deep, calming breaths. It was such an ugly match and it made me so mad that it was played like that. Not really the best way to show off how wonderful this game can really be.

It's such a fantastic feeling to have a team you've been supporting all your life and who've consistently been good but have always underperformed at big occasions, finally FINALLY reach their stride. THANKS, BB! ♥

(IKR?! SERIOUSLY REF. THAT WAS A RED CARD ALL DAY LONG! POOR XABI! I BET HIS CHEST IS PURPLE TODAY.)
