I can take no credit for the structure of the ceremony or the liturgy -- it first appeared, IIRC, in the short story Of Blood and Honor by Chris Metzen and then again in Arthas: Rise of the Lich King. The full thing involves cathedrals and pilgrimages and all sorts of stuff that's not really practical when you're dealing with a plague followed by an invasion of the walking dead.
Oh, yes indeed...it comes through quite clearly even in this short a snippet that we are very much dealing with a battlefield promotion.
