wow this was intense...i can just picture at that last bit Esca holding his gaze as he says it and marcus being lie "oh holyfuck he is a little crazy but unf so so hot"
there is also an element here of Esca wanting to reclaim something, perhaps like the romans claimed something of his so marcus is his retribution. And of course if Rome cannot love marcus enough now that he is not up to their perfect roman standard he will love him better than rome ever loved him. It is certainly a savage love between them, and I feel like Esca cannot be anything but that kind of intense feral-ness and he would be the same way in bed. I think Esca is kind of what marcus would be without the restrictions of roman mores on his conscience and Esca can fulfill that for him...
I have a horrible soft spot for love/hate relationships. Esca's inner turmoil for Marcus (that's seen in the movie) just makes the fangirl part of me melt and explode at the same time. It's what fueled this little fanfic.
So Esca wanting to reclaim something back for himself and that 'something' being Marcus (or rather him choosing it to be Marcus)... you know there's got to be a lot of tension. I just can't get enough of it.
fabulously hot. and I think still in character, for Esca, especially the movieverse one, is such an unbelievably dominant character, even as slave there's something that resembles a master much more than marcus ever could.
And I totally agree with Esca being more dominant than Marcus in the whole "master/slave" role. I love writing and reading him as a pushy, demanding bottom it just suits him in my opinion.
I'm hoping to get a copy of the book soon. I would like to see their personalities in the book-verse.
I really like the contast of power between them, Marcus is commanding but only when faced with executing his Centurion authority, in other words, he's only forceful when it comes out of duty (because he's a massive shmoopball really) while Esca seems to have been born with it. I love reading Esca as the toppiest bottom ever, I don't really imagine he'd be too concerned with being a bottom since he seems to take everything in stride, he'd bottom the hell out of Marcus anyway.
The book's pretty good. I've read it ages ago and I think I should probably go about re-reading it at some point. I normally always defend book!verses in everything, but here it might be a bit of an exeption. Both the book and the movie have their high and low points, but I absolutely love the movie versions of the characters. Fierce Esca is Fierce.
