Either or. When people respond to your anything you get a message and people can come and respond there. Normally it's acceptable to leave comments on comments, so no worries. What you just did is fine.
LJ's pretty good about etiquette not-failings. Really, don't be a douche and you're all good. :D If you need any help formatting your posts, it's all in html, even the comments. So, y'know. Yeah.
