The roof, Saturday morning

Sep 30, 2006 13:14

Nadia wandered restlessly up to the roof (where it was oh so cold and wet and dreary and wasn't that just perfect?) and went to go sit with her guitar and practice for tonight's performance.

She wondered if Zero would notice if she played everything in a minor key?

cut for lyricy dooooooom )

Walter, looking disheveled, came from his room to the roof, looking for a place to have his whiskey and his cigarettes without being bothered about either.

Seeing Nadia and hearing her song choice, he seriously considered sneaking right back out of there. He didn't know if he had the energy to deal with her emo on top of his own.

"Would it really matter if it did? We'd either be drunk or dead."

"It's over there." Nadia would point, but . . . eh.

Walter didn't bother looking. He knew where the Viper was and that that was where Cally had put the still.

"The whiskey's not gone yet." Although he was working to change that.

Walter passed her the bottle and slouched back against the garden bed.

Nadia drank deeply. Then hiccuped. "What's the point?"

"I don't think there is a point," Walter said mororsely, holding out his hand for the bottle.

Nadia took another long sip before handing it back.

"That's so dumb."

"Yeah." He finished his cigarette and left the butt sitting next to him. "God has a sick sense of humor."

"Depeche Mode," Nadia commented absently.

"It's a song by Depeche Mode.

I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors,
But I think that God has a sick sense of humor,
and when I die I expect to find him laughing.

80s bands had it figured out."

"Huh. They're from the 80s? Maybe I'll stop by Empire on my way to work and pick some up."

If he went to work and if he cared enough to bother. He wasn't so sure about either if.

"Whatever." Nadia looked at the still. Drunken oblivion sounded . . . well, about as good as anything.

But it was way over there!

"That whiskey's weak. I'm going to get something stronger." And thus did she slowly get to her feet and shuffle over to attempt to get some moonshine.

"Hey." He took several more eye-burning swallows and held the bottle out. "Put it in here."
