Room 507: Monday afternoon

Nadia thought it would be prudent, after her conversation with Pippi at lunch, to hide out in her room until the urge to tell people the truth went away. So she was laid out on her bed with her feet up on the wall, reading How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents and wondering if becoming voluntarily mute was a viable option.

Walter finished up his lunch shift at the restaurant and went to see how Nadia was doing.

He knocked on her door and announced himself, "It's Walter."

"Come on in," Nadia called.

Walter came in and sat on the edge of Nadia's bed. "How are you feeliing?"

"Physically better, but I've had way too many uncomfortable conversations, now. You?"

"The same, without the physically better part, since I haven't been ill."

"I kind of want to hit Piper now."

Walter cocked his head at her in confusion. "Why do you want to hit Piper?"

"She cast a truth spell. The good news is that, according to Veronica, it'll wear off in twenty-four hours."

Walter scowled. "She's the reason we've all been telling things we don't want to? I kind of want you to hit her, too."

"Yeah. You'd think after what happened with Logan's spell last semester, people would figure out that, hey, maybe magic really isn't the answer. But, no, instead I have to have an uncomfortable conversation with Pippi about why I was hitting on her when she was a cat-girl."

Aw, crap.

"You were hitting on Pippi?" Walter asked incredulously. "Why were you hitting on Pippi?"

"She smelled really good!" Nadia was just a bit flaily. "And as soon as I realized I was doing it, I ran away because I don't want there to be awkwardness about me suddenly liking someone else and I think she should be with Pip anyway."

"Do you like her like that?" Maybe the truth spell thing had a slight upside.

"No, not any more. But it was really awkward right then." Nadia had to get him to understand. "She smelled really good."

"I smelled her that day." Walter reached to take her hand. "I believe you, and I trust you. Even without the truth spell."

"Yeah? And it didn't make you want to . . . see if her ears were as soft as they looked?"

She might still be feeling somewhat insecure after the revelation of that morning.
