I actually want to write a post about Moriarty playing off Sherlock. I've read a couple of reviews that questioned his motives in the episode - while in the novels he is set up as Sherlock's arch-enemy, intent on defeating Sherlock because the latter perpetually foils his crimes, in BBC's version he wants to destroy Sherlock because he wants to. Personally I prefer this latter version, which I find more fitting for a modern setting - also, it does amp up the thrill factor in the episode.
