Smooch update.

So the verdict is stage 3 kidney disease, and it is fatal.

We have time yet, though.  We'll do dietary management as long as we can.  But because I don't know how long we have, I am having to make preparations for sooner rather than later.  Because I can't afford to be caught flat-footed.

I am going to ask some questions, get a price for some things ( Read more... )

I thought I'd have another three years before the kidney thing became an issue, if it did. I was just a little off. :(

*hugs* Thank you so much! I will look at that stuff tonight and bring a list of questions to the vet tomorrow. I'm going to ask the vet about sub-q fluids, as my GF has experience administering them, and so we are more than willing to go to the trouble.

It's a lot to take in at once, I know -- but my vet made it sound like Zuul was going to DIE VERY SOON, whereas it turns out thar cats can live for years with 25% or less kidney function, if they're lucky and their humans are dedicated.

The fluids will help him get his appetite back slowly, but anti-nausea and appetite stimulants will help him get out of immediate crisis.

I really hope this works out for your beloved Smooch-boy the way it did for our sweet girl.

Love and luck <3

I'm not having trouble getting him to eat wet food, although because his face is really messed up he has a hard time handling wet food. So I feed it to him on a fork. Like a baby. Its hilarious and adorable. XD

Thank you kindly. *hugs*

I'm glad your kitty has you to take care of her. It sounds like you're doing a great job! I've heard many times now that cats can "crash" and then rally. I'm glad she pulled through and you got a little more time. <3

Oof, that sucks, I'm sorry. *hugs* I'm so glad you were able to get good information from the vet and from the site. Fluids can make a huge difference!
