On peacemakers and losing your ground.

I only recently ran across this article at Womanist Musings from back in September of 2012.

It's called "Annoying are the peacemakers, for they will call for our silence", and it's all so immensely quotable that you should just go ahead and read it.  I do like this bit:

Y’see, Peacemakers, every time you speak, what I tend to hear is “sit down and ( Read more... )

You can also never work at Hobby Lobby.

The fact really is, if you work for an obviously-Christian company, you are already in trouble. If they're considered to be a NFP (like a church, but say you work in the Food Pantry or Homeless Shelter), you can be fired at a moment's notice and then discover they never paid any unemployment taxes for you, so you don't get unemployment. (Yes, that happened to me.) These organisations use tax status as a bludgeon and the only ones who win are them.

I'm Chrisitian, and I believe many other Christians are worthwhile...but I'll never WORK FOR another Christian in my life.

(Don't get me started on how they underpay 'because they're Christian' and how women are grossly underpaid MORE than the men are 'because they don't need a big paycheck--their husbands should be supporting them'.)

FWIW, I have met the occasional awesome peacemaker, and I like to think of myself as one. The type who looks at the situation, notices that one side is attempting to oppress someone else (typically aggressively) and points out that we will have peace...if they step the fuck off. And they damnwell better do so.
