My life as an essay question.

I filled out the functionality report this week, which is a many-pages-long form that they send you when you apply for disability. You have to fill it out and send it back, and they use your answers to help them decide how fucked up you are ( Read more... )

I'm so glad that you were able to get through it. It does sound like a trademarked version of No Fun At All.

It was ludicrously difficult. I should show youall the blank copy we made just in case I fucked up the first one.

The shitty part is that I see why they have to do this. They need to know this stuff, and that is totally legit. But it's like they hired someone to make the damn thing as unhelpful, useless, and frustrating as possible without ACTUALLY giving anyone anything concrete to point at. It felt like being trolled. Seriously.

I'd offer hugs if I thought it would help. I hate that you had to do this but I am really proud of you for getting through it. Sargon too. I can't imagine how hard it would be to fill out something like that. As if anyone's life could be summed up in seven pages. Ridiculous really. I'm hoping with everything I've got that this process goes as smoothly as it can for you.

Good luck!

I am hoping the denial/appeal process isn't as destructive to my well-being as I am afraid it will be. I mean, I THINK I'll be mostly fine, but if I'm wrong, that will really, really suck.

thanks

i find that knowing ahead that it is NORMAL for them to deny you.. its almost policy! helped me to deal.
otherwise the whole "appeal" "file more forms" etc would be far more discouraging.

as it is? its annoying but if you start out with the "now they will deny this..." and just take it as stupid bureaucratic garbage.. its not personal.. it is better.

frankly just make a file drawer for all the stuff, put the "got this form" "mailed this" on your calender so you can refer to it
keep copies of EVERYTHING.. doctors papers, your forms, what you get from them....shrug
its annoying but you will get through it!

Fuck, yes. I just did this, recently, as well. I swear, this post could have been my rant. I swear, the whole thing is designed to make you feel like the world's biggest loser, and to shame you in to not applying. (Also, the form asking for my work history back until I was still in the womb? WHY?) Gah. The whole thing was mentally exhausting and traumatic. In situations like these, Fortification is called for. *Offers you virtual snickerdoodles the OSO just finished baking*

Uuuuuugh. At least I'm lucky enough (?) to have only had one job, for two days. So I didn't have a lot of homework to do there.

Ooo! Snickerdoodles! *tummy growls*
