Gaming: Jandar's Luck edition.

We have established that the Baron has never met a die roll he couldn't slap down to a critical success. He has insanely high skill rolls that he has never needed because the dice apparently think his cock tastes like chocolate. If he had only a five percent chance of doing something, he would roll a two. Every time ( Read more... )

If I read that in a book, I'd say it's pretty clear that he's right about the spirit thing and the two spirits are causing destructive interference. But ow.

Yes, and it's Jason Behr. Very cute, and has that sleazy older brother vibe thing going on. Perfect casting.

Heh - the curse of CWIFSTYCEB is one shared by a /lot/ of PCs, I find.
Actually, scratch that, it's not that they're /stupid/, they just have no savvy. Or consideration for consequences.

Although some characters are just weird with dice - I had a psycher in 40K with the most astounding ability to screw up at critical moments.
As in, the rest of the team have decided to torture some mook to get info out of him (admittedly, despite her pointing out, 'you really don't want to do that before I try going into his head. Pain is really psychically bad, even second hand, k?'), before getting her to start poking round in his mind...only...dice roll...she gets /into/ his head just fine. Oh yes. Fits like a glove. Only his consciousness is now in /her/ skull, leaving her very thoroughly stuck in their prisoner's body, as her so-called teammates start getting creative...

I hope that ended well. Or at least not as badly as it appears it must have.

I can't say that I've ever experienced a definitive change in intellectual processing based on the type of character I'm playing, though the character's intelligence level can reflect in either how engaged or relaxed I am playing the character. Playing a character that's less intelligent than I am is actually quite liberating; there's less pressure to be the one to come up with the brilliant plan and it gives me license to do stupid, but entertaining things. I get to be colour and comedic relief. The most recent example of this was playing a troll physical adept (mystical martial artist) in a game of Shadowrun (urban fantasy + cyberpunk) who began to feel misgivings about the information (or lack thereof) being given to his party of freelance black operatives by a contact referred to as a "Mr. Johnson". He expressed his distrust with the statement "I've got a bad feeling about this. I think it's gonna be like last time when I had to throw that Johnson through a wall." That added a level of back-story to the character party and became ( ... )

I was once in a Gamma World game where one player had just had surgery and played from a big cushy chair, a pile of pillows, a couple blankets, and a cookie sheet next to her for rolling. She was on some excellent painkillers and rolled an Intelligence of five. Lots of fun.

See, this is why I like freeform gaming... no dice rolls. Still doesn't stop your character going off and doing something other than what you planned, but at least then it's your own darn fault and wrangling them back[ish] is marginally easier
