Yeah, she rocks, doesn't she? Great, great stuff.

And thanks, I needed to re-see this myself again today.

That first link is a good reality check. (So is the flow chart.)

I wish people who don't want to spend the money on handmade items would be more honest and say "damn I can't afford that" or "I don't want to spend the money on it when I can get something that serves the same function from Big Box Store for less" rather than the bullshit, "Oh that's too expensive" or "overpriced" or whateverthefuck devaluing crap they come up with.

This is very true. I've made friends with several Etsy shopowners who specify in custom skin care. It takes several days for them to make the lotions, creams, and serums, and the are carefully packaged. I'd rather pay $40 for two ounces of organic custom handmade face cream than $15 for something from, say, L'Oreal.

While I do agree with the overall points, I found the notion that our time is worth more than someone else's (particularly someone is so much poverty as to be working in a sweatshop) to be problematic. I understand what she means, but her wording is... not ok.

NM, I re-read, and she said it was "more expensive," not "worth more," which is technically true. Still kinda irksome in the way it's worded, but is true.

And corporations aren't all bad. I mean, sure, a lot are corrupt as fuck, but corporate does not automatically mean "greedy jerk."

Ahh, I love her converted tee shirts. T___T her Ironman top mocked me many a day...

I can't afford her clothes. (Right now.) But do I think they're worth it? TOTALLY. And my main motivation to make more money right now is to be able to afford things that are worth it.

My own pricing policy for my yarn right now is to make enough money on it to buy the materials to make another. That's it. I calculated and I cannot physically make enough yarn to support me, it's HANDSPUN, it takes FOREVER.

It's a self-sufficient hobby. Most people can dream of that, right? And sometimes, SOMETIMES, I make enough that I can buy myself something nice from an artisan who charges what their work is worth.
