Fire Update

No people were injured, still no word on the dog. It was definitely arson. As I have heard it, some kids were seen buying gasoline at a nearby convenience store. Assuming that is true, I imagine they will be found very quickly, as it's on film and we know what their truck looked like. They apparently broke in and doused the lower story with gas ( Read more... )

Beautiful ... and horrible.

Was there a lot of damage to the property other than the house? I ask mostly because we can see some beautiful trees there, and I wonder if they survived.

I'm also so glad that you weren't hurt. *hugs*

I can't go look, I'm sick with the flu, but I never saw the trees catch. They should be fine, even the ones closest in. They were all just far enough from the flames, and there was no wind . . .

That is absolutely shocking, appalling, and very sad. I can't blame you for feeling paranoid about your own place right now.

*hugs*

So am I. I hope the dog wasn't home, and that those little shits get caught and incarcerated for a long, long time.

I would, but I didn't see anything at all useful. Our neighbor DID see a truck hauling ass outta there, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if she was called on to testify.

I'm not on our neighborhood watch email list, and I'm too sick to go out and talk to the lady at the end of the street who runs it, but I will try to find out what they'll be doing.

They were wealthy, so it's pretty certain they had insurance of some kind. That's of minimal consolation, but at least they aren't likely to end up destitute and completely fucked.

There's an ex-husband on good terms for them to stay with, I know that.

Then they'll turn indignant... with their lives destroyed they'll go out and do it again. They won't care.

I highly doubt this is their first crime. They broke in apparently and poured gasoline all over the place before they lit it. That's pretty bold, and I would think it indicates a degree of criminal experience as well as focused, personal anger. That fact that their were two says that they were young and needed each other to psych themselves up for it, also the fact that they may have bought the gas nearby, which also indicates a general lack of sophistication. I would guess they were 18-22, single men with a history of inappropriate acting out and a lot of anger. I would bet they had been drinking, which would lower their inhibitions and allow them to try something this bold. The fact that they bought the gas so soon before the crime indicates it was impulsive and not too well planned. They had been to the house before and may have had some way to know no one would be home, as they wouldn't have broken in if there was anyone there. They were after that particular house, as if they just wanted to torch a random house there are ( ... )
