Maybe she really doesn't get it. Maybe the best approach would be to speak her language, as it were.
All you'd really need is a skeevy guy in a wifebeater to yell at her to get her ass back in the kitchen where she belongs. You don't get more conservative than that, do you?
I obtained permission to reprint the following in its entirety. It was posted in response to my sharing the story on the NLA mailing list: Dear Representative Kern
( ... )
The Arlington Street Church is Universalist/Unitarian. Therefore, according to assholes like Kern, "they ain't real Christians." And I'm sure also that in the ignorant company she keeps, Massachusetts is synonymous with Sodom because it's the first state in the union to allow gay marriages.
All the letters in this thread - Naamah's, Tucker's, Mr. Ravenstone's - are well-written and heartfelt and brilliant, but I have to agree with mokie above that there is no getting through to someone like Kern. She's too invested in her belief system, her constituents reinforce her loathsome beliefs, and now all the attention she's getting is feeding into the persecution complex characteristic of fundies.
The fundies are able to take the smallest, most inconsequential detail - say, a founding father referring to "Our Creator" in a speech - and spin their own alternative history around it. And the way they warp and distort history is as nothing next to how well they do at willfully ignoring a vast body of science so they can continue to flog kreeayshunizm.
Honestly, I think your letter has said just about anything that I'm thinking about this situation, short of the profanities, and that's as it should be.
I might write, but not being an American citizen might count against anyone listening to me on this one, I think...

And the way the person who talked about his mother's death in the Oklahoma terrorist was attacked shows the kind of people who support Kern...

I always love it when the fundies scream, "But our Founding Fathers were christian and really wanted to include religion in the government!"
