Hey, Shooters!

Nov 28, 2006 00:52

I'm looking for a source for those little plastic ammo racks that bullets come in. Not round-hole loading trays, which I can find online, but the grid-shaped black ones. Specifically, I need them right around .30 cal, or the size of a BPAL perfume imp. I know bullets are sold in little trays like that. I just want to buy them separately ( Read more... )

Damn, I liked to the first one twice... the midwayusa link is the one that has the foam.

I like those foam ones! They'd be perfect, but styrofoam just isn't durable. Drat!

The kind with two halves, though, that has possibilities.

How a propos! I did the same thing this weekend, i.e., I went shooting with my dad and ganked some of his ammo boxes for my BPAL. The MTM Case-Gard are the type I have, though I have the standard flip-top boxes.

I was also going to suggest looking for reloading trays, though I don't know if they make them with the square holes, and they hold far fewer imps over a larger space. My dad showed me a couple of them that looked like they would hold maybe 25 imps in a space the size of a DVD case, while the boxes he gave me hold 100 in a space the size of a CD case.

Midway Arms is a good company with prompt (though somewhat pricy for small orders) shipping and helpful customer service. You may wish to get a catalog from them, as I found it much easier to find things in their catalogs than on their website.

I just love how bpalers sort of get an odd obsesssive glow in their eyes about ammo trays. :)

Anyway, is there a chance you could add me to the growing list for a custom bpal box? I will have to be somewhere at the end, as I don't have a ton of money at the moment, but I absolutely LOVE the work you do. You are an amazing artist. I'd also love to see what you'd come up with in response to some of my ideas.

Thanks! I'll definitely make a public announcement when I am open for commissions again.

Just asking--have you checked the size? I was pretty sure the ammo boxes I have are .45 caliber. However, the place I bought them stopped carrying them.

I need to double-check the size, but ask around before you "go" with .30 caliber.

I'll double check mine if I can (I don't know that the boxes they came in are labeled with the caliber), let me know if you discover yours are different. I'm pretty sure the 2 I have are .30 cal; the fit is tight -- damn near perfect, with almost no wiggle.

That may be right, then. Mine DO wiggle, but I kind of prefer that. While I wrap the labels around the imps to put them in, they don't "stay" all tightly curled up because they have that extra room.

I WILL dig out my receipt from the ones I bought tonight.

I suggest going down to your local range. Especiallay if it's an indoor range. I'm sure the fine people shooting down there would have no problem passing those trays off to you. I always just toss them away myself. I'd give you mine, as I shoot a great deal, but I have a 45. I do have a 30-30 rifle, though. Those ammo plastic trays come in 2*10 and are deep. I'm guessing those aren't the kind you're looking for.

I think .45s would work, too. I need to get my hands on one and see how loose the fit is. I probably will have to go to the range. Hopefully before January. -_-

It's hunting season here - I'll ask my dad tonight if anyone uses a .30 caliber anything. But I second (or third, or fourth, whereever it's at now) the range idea - most shooters I know would love for someone to use the part they throw away. Then again, I know some pretty eco-friendly shooters. :)

Didn't read all the comments yet, so you might already have this info, but go visit the local shooting range. (I know where you live. There *is* a local shooting range somewhere around.)

They will generally be throwing them out, and will probably just give them to you for the asking.
