So I Had This Idea . . .

Will someone who is not currently rendered nauseatingly weepy and sentimental over the impending death of a parent please tell me if my idea, as outlined below, is a genuinely sweet idea or simply glurge? Thanks.

Hello, (Crazy Family Member #31)

I'm sending you this because I want your help with something I'm doing for Mom.

You know what a jewelry horse she is. Well, I want to make her a necklace so that she'll have something to wear that will remind her of all of us. Something beautiful she can keep with her all the time. Which is where you come in. If you could just pick a bead, any bead, to represent you, and send it to me along with a note talking about why you picked it, or talking about a happy memory you have of her, I'd be really, really grateful. I'll string all the beads onto a necklace, and put the notes in a book, put the book in a pretty box, and we can all give it to her hopefully at Christmas.

I don't care if it's old or new, handmade or store-bought, a big bead, little bead, a shell, or just a shiny rock with a hole drilled through the middle. Send me something pretty. If you like, the kids can pick out and send beads, too, draw pictures, whatever they would like to do. And if you know anybody else who might want to contribute to either the book or the necklace, please, please let them know about it and give them my contact information.

I want this to be a special Christmas for all of us, and your help will make the difference.

Thank you and lots of love,

Naamah

My mom is a cynical, sarcastic bitch, just like me, and I am justifiably proud of that fact, but I still want to do something special for her. I mean, hello, this could be her Last Christmas Ever.

So tell me, have I launched completely off my rocker, scattering my marbles behind me? Or is this a good idea?
