Since the story is ACK epically long, I hope you will indulge me - why a "mint" beetle? He looks like porcelain to me. What's minty about him?

The story is so endearing and wonderfully written, the length is hardly noticeable! But *grin* I'll be glad to answer your question. Mint beetles are small, blue or green, common beetles in the UK - they are so named because they eat mint leaves. In this story, Draco is the Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts and Stanley is the result of a student's Transfiguration class exercise - turn this beetle into a teacup - gone wrong, which is how he got to be so big and has a willow china pattern on his shell. Draco rescued him and kept him as a pet. :) Harry here is also the victim of a spell gone wrong and is paralyzed but conscious and he's never seen Stanley, so has no idea what is walking all over him. Draco and Stanley keep him company while they wait for the spell to wear off. Hope that helps! :D But really, *grin* you should read it. ;-)

I liked Harry's mental picture of some kind of hideous monstrous insect crawling on him, yeah. :)
