That's the thing that bugs me, I know just enough about wildcraft to say that there is almost no plant that doesn't have some use, so to call them "weeds" implies a uselessness that is just wrong.
Well, that is definitely goldenrod. Although, FYI, the plants can cause allergy sufferers grief in the autumn because of high pollen counts (though obviously not if dried). Also, you're probably right to call it a weed (weed is definitely in the eye of the beholder though). It's apparently bad news in a farmer's field, because it's apparently bad for cattle to eat.
And as an added random fact, it is a species that causes taxonmists grief because of difficulty identifying subspecies, because of crazy genetic variation.

Interesting; everything I've read (from several different sources) says it's not goldenrod, but its cousin ragweed that's the problem plant.
