A while back I talked about the "weeds" that grow outside my bedroom windows; well I got off my butt and managed to ID a few of them, the main one being Goldenrod.

Awesome! So much better than just weeds.

That's the thing that bugs me, I know just enough about wildcraft to say that there is almost no plant that doesn't have some use, so to call them "weeds" implies a uselessness that is just wrong.

WHOA you weren't kidding when you said harvest! The first pic looked so small and suddenly you had CORNSTALKS lol. Awesome though!

The first two pics were close-up of the leaves and flowers, the plants themselves were about 6 feet tall.

Well, that is definitely goldenrod. Although, FYI, the plants can cause allergy sufferers grief in the autumn because of high pollen counts (though obviously not if dried). Also, you're probably right to call it a weed (weed is definitely in the eye of the beholder though). It's apparently bad news in a farmer's field, because it's apparently bad for cattle to eat.

And as an added random fact, it is a species that causes taxonmists grief because of difficulty identifying subspecies, because of crazy genetic variation.

I apparently know a lot about goldenrod.

Interesting; everything I've read (from several different sources) says it's not goldenrod, but its cousin ragweed that's the problem plant.

Oh, ragweed is definitely worse. But I don't think it's necessarily mutually exclusive.

Ooooh, it's been a good year for goldenrod here too. I shall have to try this as well, thanks!
