They piled in the car, arguing about something menial and stupid, no doubt.  however that was forgotten pretty damn fast as it became no consequence in comparison to what happened next.  Still dragging his last pointless point through the dirt, Bob lowered the shifter into reverse and gunned it without even the faintest of glances into the rearview

Ah, you have such great, feckless characters in your stories.

In particular, dudes scrambling around getting into one piece of trouble after another, only to stop and really notice the disaster they've created, is one of the hallmarks of your stories.
