I've just been informed that I will be starting a new job in August. Well, that's almost correct...I'll be attending new-hire orientation, 10 days of required (and unpaid) training, and then three weeks or so of supervised (but paid) work before I'm considered fully qualified ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear changing the career didn't work out this time. I hope you at least feel a little recharged from the time off.

I don't know about "recharged", because looking for work is in some ways more demanding and exhausting than actually working. Perhaps I can accumulate enough to pay for some classes that open some extra doors.

That really sucks. Especially the 10 days of unpaid time! Maybe you can find some spanish teaching cds or tapes to listen to on the road though so you can learn it and be eligible for jobs that require it.

The only good part about the ten days is that I'll have a roof over my head every night. I'm hoping I'll also have WiFi so I can keep tabs on what's going on in the real world.

Has it really been a-year-and-a-half? Where does the time go?
Perhaps not as fast sitting in your seat as it seems to me... but good for you that 'something' is working out.

Is the ten-days of training a ten-day-stretch, or two M-F weeks?

I don't have any idea what the schedule is. If it's like similar training I've had in the past, it'll be ten straight days.

This was on hand as a last resort...I decided that we were too close to the edge for me not to make use of it. Neither of us are very happy about it, but we still have to exist in modern society, which means we both need some sort of revenue stream.

it may not be the most ideal news but as you said, its work and Im glad you were able to find it! Im sure the income will be a relief to you all <3
