A house with naught to show of faces but mirrors and statues is a lonely, lonely thing.
The clocks in the greeting hall, in the drawing room, in the dressing room - all sang fretfully, in need of rewinding, yet knowing that they could not, would not, should not demand attention. Their purpose to serve, to remind their master of the times to be clothed, and to be fed, and above all to be seen and admired by all in the world outside the house of mirrors and statues - their purpose was winding down to its end.
The skeleton beside the pond behind the house had no more tears to weep for gorgeousness.
