Help: Elimination diet

One of the pieces of advice I got was to do an elimination diet to help ward off morning sickness*. I've been a slacker about this with the excuse that I was waiting for the farmer's markets to get going. Couple that with the fact that I'll have little choice in what I get for food over the May long weekend and I've got about three weeks to do ( Read more... )

From what I understand, most cases of morning sickness are (at least indirectly) the result of low blood sugar, which is why some women have "morning" sickness in the afternoon or evening. And from what I've heard and read, ginger is by far the best treatment of morning sickness that's already in progress.

Which is not to say that eliminating some of the things you've listed isn't a good thing to do before getting pregnant. Indeed, seems like getting the alcohol and caffeine withdrawal out of the way would be good. And getting used to being more careful with blood sugar control, also a good thing so the nixing the sugar and processed food definitely good. And dairy, corn, and peanuts aren't necessarily great things to put in one's body anyway.

It just struck me that perhaps getting a good allergy test might be the better way to go if you're looking something other than detox.

And if you're looking to detox, a weekend of a veggie juice and fiber fast is probably about all you need to hit the body reset button, as it were.

I have to agree. Keeping my tummy not empty was the key. I was on a full blown Candida Diet before I got pregnant, and had already eliminated foods that bothered me. But even still, I ate Dairy which affects me, because I was craving it...Your body wants it for a reason. I found cold cucumber was one of my favs, but everyone is different. If you have questions, you are more than welcome to ask.

um, yeah. what they said.

if you want to do a detox before conception, go right ahead. i'm also not sure an elimination diet would help. i was extremely sensitive to some foods in first trimester (both of them, though more in the second) but they had little to do with foods i'm normally sensitive too. i was also weirdly sensitive to some things last third trimester. your best bet is to practice listening to your body and always have small bland snacks and perhaps ginger on hand.

and, of course, you may not get sick at all. some don't.
