Thoughts on X-Men: First Class

I got out of work a little early today, so E and I ran out to catch a matinee of X-Men. I always try to see a comic book movie as an alternate universe, because I know if I'm looking for it to be true to the comic I will be disappointed. Huh. Whereas Erik crying over his mother's body wouldn't have bothered me; it's the other aspects that had me muttering 'what is this movie rated?'

(And I'm still wondering if Charles just 'told' his mother that they were adopting Mystique, or how that worked.)

Good question. If this Charles would do that to his mother, then him wiping MacTaggert's memory is more plausible, although still reprehensible.

I also disliked the bit in the pub where, when asked what she was studying Raven responded "waitressing". As though she would not have gotten a first class education hanging around with Xavier while playing his sister.

Thinking about it further, I wanted development that explained how Schmit became Shaw, and when he decided to destroy the world he knew so he could rule hell.

Hell, I wanted the scene where someone looked at Shaw and said, "If you blow up the world, who do you think is going to make your fine wines, maintain your expensive yacht, tailor your clothes? You stupid shmuck, could you please think this through?"
