The Time Traveler’s Wife gets a mixed review from me. Quite a few people have raved about this book, about how the author ingeniously used time travel to demonstrate that love descends time ( Read more... )

to answer 1 of your questions, claire was with gomez albeit not to make henry jealous

this is one of my fave books but maybe the movie will answer those questions for you. hollywood certainly has a habit of changing plot details. hopefully, it'll be just as good, if not better

Yes, I know Clare was with Gomez, but not to make Henry jealous. If she had, I think I would have liked her more. She's always waiting for Henry, a fact that annoys me.

that would have just made her a spiteful character. i assume that you'd rather have her try to make henry jealous than wait for him because that's what most people would do in situations like that and otherwise, it makes her seem too perfect or whatever. but i think the fact that she waits for henry is just as much a common response that people make nowadays as invoking jealousy. so the fact that she waits still makes her human and flawed and an interesting character. imo :)

You do bring up an interesting point. Now I'm reminded of all the battered and abused women in the world. I still think Clare is very one dimensional though.

I hated the style in which this book was written and I hated the characters. It was a good concept, but this book is highly overrated. I do want to see what kind of trainwreck the film will be.

That'll be interesting. I don't think this is one of those books that will translate well into a movie, simply because so much of the plot go back and forth. It'll just confuse people who've never the book and make the other half uncomfortable.

I understand what you're saying about the style though.

Oh, my gosh. The movie can't possibly work. I can't even imagine it working. It'd be like making a movie of Sound in the Fury, from what I hear about that book.

You can see I thought it was not a very good book. I felt like I'd totally wasted my time.

A movie? no. They'll never be able to fit the entire story in there. A tv series where their characters are given more time to develop? Maybe.

The Sound and The Fury,/i> should never be made into a movie. The text is crazy enough to understand.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I loved the characters at certain times, disliked them for a lot of the book, felt they were one-fimensional at parts, hated certain people (Gomez)and yet I felt like my heart was being ripped out and cried like a baby the 1st (and 2nd, 3rd, etc) time I read through it.

Maybe it wasbecause even crappy people will love and have loves that shape and consume the entirety of their lives. Maybe its the way Henry goes from being a rather selfish and cold bastard to a person who can cry for the love of his wife and daughter. Maybe its the way he died. Maybe its Claire who will spend the rest of her life alone. Maybe its the way I felt thinking about trying to hold on to someone you love and watching them die in your arms. Maybe its his daughter Alba who will continue to see her father even after he's died.

Crap. I don't know how to say it in a way that isn't cheesier than what I've already written. Its just the overwhelming tragedy of two people that I didn't quite like and yet felt real to me.
