Bookspotting: Do Androids Dream of the Russian Steppes?

Because you know what Tolstoy needs, right? Robots o_O Although after the initial "Dear Gods, will this madness never end???" reaction subsided, I must admit that disgruntled droids rising up against their human oppressors in pre-revolutionary Russia has a weird kind of logic...which only goes to show just how far this bizarre little mash-up sub- ( Read more... )

*headdesk*

And I had just come to the conclusion that I will not be pursuing Romancing Miss Brontë right away only because I've had enough of the speculations of Charlotte Brontë's love life. At least it has more possible literary merit than androids...

So, which of these have you actually read? I bought the Pride & Prejudice & Zombies one, but frankly, left off reading about halfway through. Not sure if it was too close to the original or what.

I think it really depends on who's doing the adaptation; I forced myself through most of PP&Z, then quit with about 100 pages to go because it was so stupid I couldn't stand it any more. On the other hand, I've started Mr. Darcy, Vampyre and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, both of which are pretty well written in comparison, and enjoyable so far (I've had trouble sticking to one book for more than a few days lately >_<). My favorite though at this point, which I highly recommend, is Jane Bites Back, in which Jane Austen (and a few other famous writers of the period) happen to be vampires living in modern society. I suppose that one has an advantage in not actually being a retelling of someone else's work?

I HAVE TAKEN THIS REVIEW INTO CONSIDERATION AND WILL NOW TAKE IT UNDER ADVISEMENT ALSO.

I hated P&P&Z, I just couldn't handle the complete and utter lack of WRITING. But the ones where they actually WRITE I am way more on board with. I've got more than one P&P sequel that, while I obviously regard as published fanfic, are great reads. But UGH P&P&Z.

*a little more exicited about MD,V being on my wishlist*

This is shameless self-promotion, but I didn't know if you would be interested in participating in a group read for The Sylph next month. I know I would personally love to have your bibliophile self there!

LOL, that's alright, it sounds like fun, and I've been meaning to read that one anyway. Will the Librifiles version be out soon? Otherwise I'll have to order an used copy of the Northwestern edition. I cannot concentrate while reading books on the computer! Invariably I get distracted and wander off to look something up on the internet...

I'll keep you updated as best I can, hopefully it will be out in May so you would only have to read or print out a few chapters, because I love for you to have that copy!

Oh and I also realized I could have harassed you on goodreads instead of polluting your lj! Oops!

Just when I thought that book could not possibly get any worse. I tried to read it. Multiple times. TRIED. But then I get to that chapter about CUTTING THE FUCKING GRASS and I snap and go into a red rage and... actually I have no idea where the book went. I haven't been able to find it since then. Just a blur of red fury...
