Really, Sir Andrew? Really? Is nothing sacred anymore??? Granted, I know he's been threatening to do this ever since that godawful The Phantom of Manhattan novel came out, but I can honestly say I never thought he'd have the nerve to go through with it. And yet it would seem he does, and has. Dare I listen? Not without fortification. More ( Read more... )

The score's not as terrible as it could have been. The title song is that dreadful thing he's used under different titles before - Kiri te Kanawa sang it as The Heart is Slow to Learn at ALW's fiftieth and it turned up in The Beautiful Game - but there are some catchy moments. And some wildly inappropriate and hideous ones.

What disappointed me most about it was the costumes. Surely anything PoTo-related should be an excuse for decent gowns? But no. Nothing to match the Masquerade scene. Christine in beige for the title song (although I think that may have been a lighting malfunction, I'm pretty sure she was meant to get drenched in a light that would turn it gold). Madame Giry is now rich but still wears the same dress she had in the first show. Such a let-down.

I can't wait for the reviews to come out - the first I've found is from a pair of theatre bloggers whose reviews I love: http://westendwhingers.

Oh... crap.

And here I was thinking that maybe he'd take a hint and NOT keep working on it after his cat deleted the score a couple years ago...

Bwahahahahaha, I'd forgotten about that! Goodness yes, that's a omen he should have listened to--haven't cats been especially good to him over the years?
